Masaya Celebrates San Lázaro

With a tradition of over 200 years, Masaya dressed color and authenticity traditional Feast of St. Lazarus, the Patron Saint of the canine race. To Magdalena Church and around 5,000 people came over from promesantes and domestic tourists and foreigners, to receive the blessing of St. Lazarus.
The promesantes with their dogs attended the Magdalena Church San Lazaro thank for favors received the benefit of their dogs who dressed in colorful costumes and a candle in hand, marched to the image of San Lazaro, to pray and thank the favors received.
The promesante Esperanza Latino, who came to meet Lazarus for the favor received said his dog was suffering from a fatal disease, that neither the vet gave her many life expectancy, but his faith in San Lázaro and prayers performed the miracle of saving its small and loyal friend.
This traditional and original celebration of the City of Flowers, is attractive and as part of the celebrations, the Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (INTUR) takes a very original contest and award the most elegant costumes, traditional and fancy dogs.
This year the first place was for Chavalita dog, second place was awarded to the dog Bobby and thirdly to Chilindirina bitch.
Each of these categories INTUR give cash prizes four thousand Cordoba for first place, three thousand for the second and two thousand Cordoba for third. In total more than 40 dogs were registered, although not all promesantes participated.
To quench thirst and exhaustion of promesantes and partygoers of San Lazaro, INTUR handed one thousand bags of ice cold chicha, gesture thanked Catholic believers. Meanwhile, some chicha promesantes also distributed among the Catholic faithful who attended this religious festival
