Nicaraguan tourism up 7 percent in first half of 2014
Nicaragua received almost 650
thousand foreign visitors in the first semester of 2014, which represents an increase of 7.1 percent in comparison to the same period in 2013, according to the National Tourism Chamber (CANATUR, for its acronym in Spanish).
“We closed the figures of the first semester and we saw an increase of 7.1 percent in the entrance of tourists. This means that a total of 649,970 tourists arrived to Nicaragua”, declared Sylvia de Levy, Executive President of CANATUR. According to Levy, the places tourists are visiting the most are Granada, León, Chinandega, Matagalpa, Jinotega, and the pacific beaches.
This year’s promotional activities for Nicaraguan tourism include over 18 international fairs, 19 digital advertisement campaigns, 54 international press tours, and 10 workshops. Additionally, more than 350 articles have been published in international media to date, promoting the country as a tourism destination.
It is expected that Nicaragua closes this year with US$440 million generated by the tourism industry and receives more than 1.31 million tourists. According to official figures, in 2013 the country received 1.23 million tourists and generated a total of US$417 million from the industry.
